About Rebecca
10th Judicial District · Seat 38 · Minnesota 2026
My name is Rebecca A. Waxse and I am running for Judge on the 10th Judicial District Court. Thank you for your consideration and support.
I grew up in the Kansas City area and attended the University of Kansas, graduating with a degree in Biology. I moved to Minnesota to attend law school at Hamline University and was admitted to practice law in Minnesota in 2006. I have been a practicing attorney here for the last twenty years.
During my career I have practiced in the areas of family law and criminal defense across the 10th Judicial District. I run my own private practice and also do part-time public defender work. I am specially trained in the use of DNA in criminal cases. This wide variety of experience has given me the qualifications to be a knowledgeable, effective, and fair judge.
On a personal level, I have long considered pursuing a role on the bench. My father, David Waxse, was a Federal Magistrate Judge for nearly twenty-five years. We would often discuss what it meant to be a judge and when the time might be right for me to pursue it. His guidance shaped me deeply, and I know the time is now.
I have lived in Stillwater, Minnesota for the last fifteen years. I am married to Sam Surface, also an attorney with his own practice in Stillwater and a respected member of the legal community. Sam and I have a wonderful son who will be turning eleven this fall. He keeps us very busy with Stillwater Travelling Baseball, SCVAA Soccer, and downhill racing at Afton Alps. I co-chair the PTA talent show at his school and we love fishing, spending time on the water, and cheering on the Twins and Gopher football.
My combination of professional experience, knowledge of the local legal and law enforcement communities, and personal connections throughout our area make me the best candidate for this position. This year, please vote Rebecca A. Waxse for 10th Judicial District Judge.
